Understanding Hair Loss and PRP Hair Restoration at Radiance MediSpa
Hair loss is a common concern that affects over half of men and women by the age of 60. The causes can vary and include hereditary factors, autoimmune diseases, illness, cancer treatments, anemia, thyroid issues, hormonal changes such as birth and menopause, stress, poor diet, and certain hair care routines. While treatments like finasteride, topical minoxidil, laser devices, and hair transplants are available, they often come with limitations in terms of effectiveness, side effects, and costs.

What is PRP Hair Restoration?
Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) therapy is an innovative treatment that harnesses your body’s natural healing power to stimulate hair growth. The procedure involves drawing a small amount of your own blood, processing it to concentrate the platelets, and then injecting this enriched plasma into the scalp. These injections help stimulate hair follicles by reducing inflammation, boosting blood flow, reawakening dormant follicles, and extending the hair growth cycle. Studies show PRP can significantly improve hair count and density in treated areas.

How Does PRP Work?
Our blood contains red and white blood cells, platelets, and plasma. Platelets are key to healing, releasing granules that promote tissue repair and cellular growth when activated. These granules contain growth factors that enhance collagen production, support tissue regeneration, encourage new blood vessel growth, and induce the anagen (growth) phase of the hair cycle. By using PRP, you’re tapping into this regenerative potential to help combat hair loss and promote healthy hair growth.

What to Expect During a PRP Hair Restoration Procedure

  • Blood Draw and Preparation: Approximately 22 ml of your blood is drawn and spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from components that can cause inflammation, such as white blood cells.
  • Injection: Around 6 ml of PRP is carefully injected into the scalp along the hairline and thinning areas.
  • Treatment Plan: Most patients undergo treatments once a month for four months, with results varying by individual. Maintenance sessions are typically scheduled every six months.
  • Time Commitment: The entire procedure, including the blood draw, takes approximately 30 minutes.

Possible Side Effects
PRP therapy is minimally invasive and generally well-tolerated. You may experience mild tenderness or discomfort at the injection site, which can be relieved with ice. Bruising is also possible but typically subsides quickly.

Who is a Good Candidate for PRP Hair Restoration?
PRP therapy is most effective for individuals whose hair loss began recently (within a few years), as it is easier to reactivate hair follicles that are still present. Those with large bald spots may not see as much benefit from this treatment. Schedule Your Free PRP Hair Restoration Consultation at Radiance Medispa
